Having to buy a new watch can be a real pain in the neck, this one does this, that one does that, many today are so complex that just reading the dog gone thing can require an engineering degree. But of all the reasonable options out there, I would say that the Timex Expedition watch is worth taking a good look at. All of the things one will need out enjoying natures best hobbies, none of the garbage that either will just break or get in the way. Take a good look and see if this is right for you.
While looking at watches for outdoor use, I came across the Timex Expedition watch and was really impressed. This is a very affordable watch, which I was able to find for as low as about forty bucks, and the features were highly functional. The watch is fairly easy to find, and seems to review well. It has a luminescent face which is easy to read, even in poor light, the watch is waterproof to one hundred meters, so it’s not a great diving watch but is waterproof for daily use none the less. The hands glow in the dark, and the sturdy, wear resistant leather band will not only last for a long time but will be easy to replace if it should become damaged. An interesting fact about leather, I like them as straps because should you get trapped or caught on something, you can break leather, whereas you are stuck with metal or nylon. There are three time zones, an alarm, and a twenty four hour countdown function, all of which are handy to have for a variety of reasons. Think about this, if you are climbing on a big mountain and have a strict turnaround time, you want to be able to see at a glance how much time you have left to make the summit before you have to turn back. This is especially true if you are at high altitude and not thinking completely clearly and may perhaps be getting goal obsessed, then a countdown and an alarm may make it easier for your to stay safe and head back when you should. Having a reliable watch if you are outside the bounds of civilization is a necessity, not a luxury, and care should be given to make sure you have a reliable product that you can really count on if you should ever need it.
Options other than the Timex Expedition watch include the chronograph version of this product, which is also a great watch, and it includes a very solid stainless steel case which protects the guts of the watch, and all of the same features that the regular Timex Expedition watch does, including the light up blue face. Another of my favorite watches is the Swiss Army version of this watch, which is also a really great product. Though it runs a little to the more expensive side, it does offer the scratch resistant face and the hardened case, is water resistant to one hundred meters, and is made in Switzerland. The other feature it offers that the Timex Expedition doesn’t is the date inset into the face. Similar to the Timex, Swiss Army also offers the chronograph version of this watch and no matter what you can’t go wrong with one of these fine examples of craftsmanship. Another great company in watches and outdoor watches is Fossil, everything they make just about lasts forever, and I have never regretted any purchase I have ever made with them. The important thing to remember is to not just buy the cheapest watch out there and expect it to work well, odds are you’ll have problems with it right from the get go. Save yourself the hassle and get something good, a watch that will last a long time.
Having a good watch if you are an avid outdoorsman is a must. These items have even been known to save lives, should you get lost while camping or hiking. Hard to imagine such a possibility, but it happens every year, and something as simple as knowing when to stop walking and just camp up for the night. In my opinion, anyone who hikes, climbs, rides, or camps without one of these watches is a total fool, a fool at the mercy of an indifferent environment which could care less if those who reside there make it out or not. The Timex Expedition watch is certainly something you will not regret having if the worse occurs.
